In this adult beginner-friendly introduction to botanical sketching, we’ll begin with a brief classroom orientation before we head outdoors to the park for inspiration. After capturing the beauty of nature, we’ll return to the classroom to refine and complete your botanical sketches.
Learn the fundamentals of using artist pencils to build forms. We’ll step up your shape modeling by discussing occlusion shadows, cast shadows, and reflected light. And how to incorporate these into your drawing of plants.
Explore how to break down flowers and leaves into simple, elegant shapes.
We’ll examine the flower details under a magnifying lens for added inspiration.
All materials are provided; if you would like, please bring your own colored pencils, watercolor pencils, or other art supplies.
This workshop is the perfect opportunity to prepare a drawing for painting in the upcoming botanical watercolor class.
