Crabs: Ink and Color

What exactly makes a crab a crab? In this STEAM-inspired workshop, we’ll explore the surprising diversity of these crustaceans—from familiar local species to unusual crabs from around the world. We'll look at crab anatomy, taxonomy, habitats, diets, adaptations, native and invasive species, and some of the strange ways crabs have evolved to survive.

Then we'll put science aside—or at least loosen the rules a little. Using ink, participants will draw real crabs, invented species, or fantastical combinations inspired by what we’ve learned. Finally, we'll bring them to life with markers or watercolor.

No drawing experience necessary. Come ready to observe, experiment, and perhaps discover a crab species that exists only on paper.
